If you are hungry for horror, want to test your endurance to whatever is shown on screen, then you would be munching pop-corns watching sequels like Species or Aliens. They are masterpieces of their genre, leaving the recepients of horror the taste for more. Watching humans massacred by aliens and eventually the humans 'seemingly' outsmarting the aliens and leaving the viewers guessing for a sequel is what these films deliver. But occassionally the search for such flicks leaves your hands over much more spine chilling, flicks comprising of human sluaghter, cannibalism, psychopaths which i would group into Horror(+) cadre. Here comes the genre, with movies like 'Saw' leading the pack. Human flesh seems to be main content of the film. They try not test your composure but your edurance towards excessive atrocious torture and violence against innnocent human victims. Also falling under this cadre are flicks like 'The Texas Chain Saw Massacre','Wrong Turn 1&2' and 'Eden Lake'. I would in particular like to comment upon 'Eden lake' which i came across recently and which led me write this blog. Usually as i said horror movies would include psychopaths or some disgusting super-natural or extra-terrestrial creatures breaking hell loose. But this one was a sleeper beauty for its screenplay and context. Set up in a remote picturesque-lake a couple come to spend the weekend, ideal for the male planning to propose to his girl. An initial skirmish with some local group of children turns out to be lasting troublesome for them. Occassional frames of suspicious eyes spying on the couple leaves the viewers guessing about the involvement of something more scary. Things turn out worse when the minors steal the couple's car and head for a wild goose chase. To make it more messy, the man kills the dog of a minor. In rage the minors chase down the couple until their car crashes. Break of the dawn is when, the hell is broken loose. What starting of as a unfortuante killing of a dog, ends up with the minors torturing the man. Enlightening the spate of minors seeking unwanted trouble and cheap adventure and fun is the background of the film. It also sheds light upon the root cause of the behaviour of such minors, the parentage. Yea, troubled home is a main reason why minors take unconventional roads ahead in life. This movie shreds some light upon the atmosphere of the minors' home, evident reason to why the convict minors behave so. Back to the movie, the torturing of the male takes a brutal turn when the head of the minors gang, a brat threatens all his accomplice to hurt the man, wherein the happenings are captured by the brat's sister. All accomplice minors accompanied him expected a normal cheap thrill are intimidated to hurt the man or get hurt themselves. The man breaks down with numerous injuries when his girl spots him and tries to save him. Rest of the film, potrays how the couple try to escape form the clutches of the minors getting badly in each instance of confrontation with the minors. The tragic death of the male coupled with the revelation of the male to his girl about his plan of proposal to her and plans of spending their Honeymoon in Africa, was heart-moving. Finally escapes out of the dense foilage surrounding the lake onto the highway. Help descends down in the form of yet another minor, supposedly a friend of the group held up in beside the lake searching for the couple. The tricks the minor after he heads to the entrance of the lake again. She runs over the minor girl, the brat's sister killing her and riding back to the outskirts of the town she lands unconscious in the hands of partying locals. Upon gaining her senses, much to her chagrin she realises that this house was that of the minors. What else more can possibly go wrong? ;( Amidst the flurrying conversations, the family learns that their daughter had been killed. When her brother the brat heads home coincidently , he points to lady citing her the cause of his sister's death. Finally the brat's father himself in rage drags the lady into the washroom strangling her. Wails and screams are remains when the movie closes. This moved me a lot about the fate of such minors, who are evidently will be the notorious law-offenders of tomorrow, growing spewing venom right under our noses.

imdb Milestone
Recently I reached the milestone of watching 400 hollywood movies. Aiding me reach this was the 400th movie, The Night Of The Hunter, a 1987 thriller classic. A well crafted and paced storyline with befitting actors made a perfect blend. A frustrated dad murders a politician and robs him of 10 grands, hides it in his daughter's rag doll and makes his children swear not to tell anyone, even to their mom about its whereabouts. He is later convicted of the murder and hanged to death. The night before the hanging, he blurts out about the stolen money sans the whereabouts in his dream. His prison mate, a phoney preacher learning about the money hidden somewhere in his fellow con's house, heads to the mourning family under the disguise of a preacher intending to help the widow. He later woos the children's mother to marry him amidst her protesting son who is clever enough to ascertain that his to-be step-father has actually come to them in search of the money. The preacher under the misconception that the widow knew the place where the money is hidden, threatens to kill her. He later murders her and drops her body into a nearby lake. Upon intimidation, the young girl blurts that the money is in the rag doll in an effort to save is brother from being hurt by the preacher. Rest of the movie involves a wild goose chase, wherein ultimately the children take refuge in an orphanage. A fairly predictable climax leads the preacher into the hands of the cops. A commendable thriller from the 80s, the flick is a must watch. Numerous awards including an Oscar adorning the movie,a formidable rating at the imdb was the reason I chose this movie to ride on this milestone.
